Legendary German post metal act THE OCEAN finally return to Perth and Adelaide for their first time in 3 years, and New Zealand for their first in 4 years, in celebration of their PROGFEST headline appearances and immense new concept album Phanerozoic I: Palaezoic - released on November 2nd via Wild Thing Records.
Hailing from Berlin, The Ocean are one of the most accomplished and revered post-rock & post-metal acts on the planet. Having toured with the likes of Opeth, Mastodon, Mono, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Anathema, Devin Townsend, and many more. They are also staples on festival circuits the world over, having spent the past 5 years taking their last conceptual studio release, 2013’s Pelagial, to fans in every corner of the globe. With the recent release of Phanerozoic I: Palaezoic, Volume 1 of their 8th studio album (the 2nd volume to be released in 2020), the band have once again showed the world why they remain atop of the progressive music scene.
Their new album delves deep into the Phanerozoic eon which succeeded the Precambrian supereon, spanning a 500 million-year period leading to the present day. It has witnessed the evolution and diversification of plant and animal life on Earth and the (partial) destruction of it during 5 mass extinction events. Conceptually and musically, The Ocean's Phanerozoic is the missing link between their albums Precambrian and Heliocentric/Anthropocentric.
Bleak and heavy, angry and dystopian, The Ocean deliver wave after wave of emotion to the listener enveloping you in layers of sound that both suffocate and liberate.
