My top albums for 2018. Personal preference, don't get your knickers in a twist if your favourite isn't on here.
I've included a YouTube link for each band for you to check them out if you haven't already.
They're not ranked in any EXACT order but it is pretty close.
Kamelot - The Shadow Theory.
Another class album from Kamelot, probably not as good as Haven, but awesome none the less.
Some absolute rippers on this album.
Wolfheart - Constellation Of The Black Light.
Only discovered these guys about a month prior to this album coming out. Heavy as fuck, brooding, moody and yet melodic.
Fifth Angel - The Third Secret
They started off in the 80s and easily win the 'Best all-time classic first 2 albums and then disappear' category.
Here we are 29 years later with the 3rd album.
Singer Ted Pilot has a 'real job' these days so he's not available. Luckily guitarist Kendall Bechtel has a fine voice so he is handling the vocals.
They have hit the ground running. Great stuff.
Burning Witches - Hexenhammer
Swiss all-female metal, really good musically. Can't wait to hear more. There should be more of this stuff.
Mayan - Dhyana
This one blew me away. I knew pretty much nothing about this band until this album.
Epic as fuck.
Riot V - Armor Of Light
Hard and fast melodic metal carrying on the legacy of Riot after the death of Mark Reale (it's a long story). Check this out.
Destinia - Metal Souls
Japanese hot shot guitarist, along with Tommy Aldridge on drums, Marco Mendoza on bass and Ronnie Romero on vocals.
This is really good commercial/melodic metal. All star band, great songs.
Espionage - Digital Dystopia
Solid as fuck album from the Melbourne band.
Could this be my fave Australian album ever?
Amaranthe - Helix
How would you describe Amaranthe? Hard to say. Heavy, catchy, quirky are all terms that come to mind.
One second you visualise a packed dance floor at a trendy nightclub, next second growling vocals and windmilling hair.
Striker - Play To Win
Solid album. My 22 year old son summed it up pretty well when he said, 'They sound like they're from the 80s... but the good 80s'.
Hidden Intent - Fear, Prey, Demise
Adelaide thrashers, Hidden Intent, smash it out of the park with this one.
Brings back late 80's memories in a good way.
Best Aussie thrash album ever.
Temtris - Rapture
NSW's Temtris continue their run with a solid album of in your face metal. Great songs delivered well.
Impressive live act too, check them out.
Judas Priest - Firepower
The mighty Judas Priest are still pumping.
A couple of fillers on here but the good is really good.
Metal Church - Damned If You Do
The legendary Metal Church, second album back with Mike Howe up front.
