MAL-
Max Cavalera, thanks for joining me again. MAX- Thank you Good to be here man. MAL- Now I spoke to you briefly last October just before the Soulfly album, 'Ritual' came out. How's that been going for you quickly? MAX- 'Ritual' has been great man. It's definitely the best record we could make, got great reviews and then we've just finished the first tour over here in America with Kataklysm and Unearth, it was massive, a lot of the shows were sold out I think it does album really reinvented and revive SOULFLY's career you know in a way. I think it made people people that didn't like SOULFLY like the record so they came to the shows, a lot more interest in the band now so we are is going to be one of those really strong albums for us that we're going to you know through through the years we go back and be like 'Ritual' is a classic SOULFLY album. We know in 10 years from now probably going to say that that kind of stuff but I'm just happy that we made a record that we love and that we wanted to play this kind of stuff and finally we get to play that stuff live now we're playing we're opening the tour "The Summoning' and 'Under Rapture', playing 'Ritual' 'Dead Behind The Eyes'. Felt great man, felt really cool and we got some European festivals coming up. We're going to play a lot of that on the festivals I can't wait to play 'Ritual' on a festival because I think that's a festival song and is going to go out great when we played those big festivals and you get everybody jumping and you know thousands of people getting getting pumped up, so yeah I'm really happy with it, man, and you know, like I think is mission accomplished on that one, you know, like we set out to do this kind of cool record we did it, a great embrace from the fans and now we celebrated by taking on the road. MAL- Which brings me to the next point how have you found time with fitting in with the SOULFLY tour to do this upcoming tour of Australia yourself? How have you found the time? MAX- Well that's the thing we we decided to do I told Igor, you know whenever I have a little break between SOULFLY and whatever else I'm doing we can do other stuff and this opportunity came to do Australia with 'Beneath The Remains' and 'Arise'. We have done 'Beneath The Remains' and 'Arise' last year in South America and Russia. It was a huge success especially South America. It was insanity, man. It was so killer. Mexico sold out 2000 people going nuts. Chile the same Brazil the same. We had so much fun playing these two records together that I said we need to do more we got to do more of this you know that that. It wasn't enough you know so the idea came from Australia, came the invitation and we're like 'fuck yeah, let's do it it's gonna be great', and we will remember 'Return To Roots' was so great in Australia was '?' it was sold out everywhere we are hoping that this one does the same you know we're very very excited to have the same impact that the roots had because to me and in a weird way is is more exciting show than roots even this is more powerful these two records together it's insane how good it is man you know and I think the crowd just gonna love it and it's really got that nostalgic power to bring you back to the 90s and be part of the movement all over again. It's really cool. MAL- It must feel really good to have those still have those albums in everyone's minds to be able to come here and do a tour like that. MAX- Yeah you know like the thing is in the process of having to relearn those songs and having to relearn the lyrics and we took it very seriously and we put a work on it you know we like we are playing really good made me also fall in love with those records again that I have not heard in years I have not heard 'Beneath The Remains' in ages forgot most of the record you know and and now I have a different appreciation like I think I have a more respect for these albums were done when I was a teenager I was 19 when I made those records, you know, so it's 30 years old and right now 'Beneath The Remains' is on the 30th anniversary now. So it really made me realize how good and powerful and how blessed I am to be able to do this with Igor and and we know it's not, you know, Sepultura but is the closest thing you're going to get to that time.
