MAL-
On the line with me right now LALA from BURNING WITCHES, Lala thanks for talking to me today.
LALA-
It's a pleasure of talking to you I'm a little bit nervous, but who will get a good situation now because I had something in my hands now.
MAL-
She's talking about coffee, ladies and gentlemen, she's talking about coffee. Where did you grow up, Lala?
LALA-
I grew up and raised in the Philippines. I'm a Filipino but I'm living here in Switzerland. I married a Swiss national. So yeah, it's a good country. Quite lucky to be here.
MAL-
When did you start playing the drums?
LALA-
Yeah, I was a drummer long time ago in a thrash metal band. And I stopped drumming for very long time until when I when I start to live here. One family member was also a drummer encouraged me to play again and go to have drum lessons.
That's why that was only three months when I started to play again and yeah my drum coach found a group of girls looking for a drummer to form a heavy metal band. I was not ready back then of course but he encouraged me to have a trial which I didn't expect that the girls will ultimately like me. And it's then the time great things happening to me. Life is perfect in Switzerland. Music and good life.
MAL-
Tell us about the early days of BURNING WITCHES.
LALA-
Early days. Yeah, we started really good because we we enjoy playing music and the good thing on us is we have this great energy. It's not only a band, it's a family. We enjoy each other's company so much. Yeah, and it happens that we fit that we fit to each other. And we're we're enjoying to make music and yeah since I was I just came back from drumming yeah since these ladies are well talented and they're professional musicians but  I think it's also good for me because I learned many things from them yeah that's a great start and it's so fast is just like a train and now we're in Nuclear Blast will ever think about that yeah
MAL-
We'll get to that in a minute. With BURNING WITCHES did you just start playing live or did you go straight to the recording stage?
LALA-
No, we just started this practicing and making music we're just here to just have fun and play heavy metal, that's it, then until that we get exposed to to Swiss metal scene and then somehow people likes this kind of music so we continue playing live and until we get exposed more in more parts of Europe. Yeah, it's good. It's a good experience. And with these lovely girls, it's just perfect. It's just like my sisters.
MAL-
Tell us about the the first demo. Tell us about that.
LALA-
Demo, yeah we had this demo way back I almost forgot that forgot the when did when did we made it? But I guess that it's somewhere in October 2015.
Yeah. But this 'Metal Demons' just just to the show the people what kind of music we have. So it's a good introduction before the full album came. And then we only have this a few copies and it's sold out. Yeah, yeah, it's great. It's great. We didn't expect we didn't expect that, we're here for just playing and have fun so but it's also have this good chances for us this doesn't happen in million years so yeah keep on doing the great job so and the full motivation is our key ready for motivation, this is our dream so.
MAL-
Tell us about Schmier. How's he going on this?
 LALA-
Yeah it's me this lovely guy and he is a friend longtime friend from Romana. Romana has a dream of having all female band because she has own band her own band called ATLAS AND AXIS which is only one female there so just thinking about I want to have this whole female band and she talked to Schmier. Schmier is there in BURNING WITCHES since they weren't even BURNING WITCHES they haven't started yet because Romana and Schmier are talking about having this all female heavy metal band because she really wanted to. Then he said, 'Of course why not? Just look for members and I can help you. I can guide you in this situation', so really fortunate to have Schmier because schmear is have this huge experience and knowledge about metal industry. And he's a founder of great German thrash metal. So we're very fortunate. He's just like father a friend. Yeah, he's so lovely guy.
MAL-
Okay, so this new album coming out, which we'll get to in a minute, but now you're on Nuclear Blast. Tell us what that means.
LALA-
Yeah, it means a lot to us because as I mentioned a while ago, it's a dream come true for all of us to be signed in one of the best metal label on earth and we are so excited to work with them, and the good thing is they believe in us. They believe in our potential and our abilities as a musician and as are all female metal band now. It's, it's a really great, great experience because we have a lot of good promotions and the exposure we're going to big festivals concerts. And right now it's still a learning process for us, because we're a thrash band. And then yeah, but I think as long as the motivation is there, and you are enjoying the fun of making music and you're enjoying how to make people happy.
MAL-
Right, you've got a new album, 'Hexenhammer' is going to be released on November the 9th. Tell us about this. For starters, the title, tell us about the title.
LALA-
The title, the Hexenhammer, it's a famous book, the Malleus Maleficarum. It's one of the famous and interesting books, second to Bible and is in and witch instructs witch persecution, condemn and torture or execution. It's just like for us it's sad the sad history and then because these people are innocent and then get persecuted It was really a sad day then I think this album will will help for younger generation about the dark days of our history and be aware of the forgotten past because that the time was so sad and these people are innocent, so that's the reason that we decided to have this album concept. Why not? Since then we are in witches stuff so it's a great it's a great cover, great album artwork and great songs.
MAL-
Now I've seen a crazy energetic clip for 'Executed'. Tell me about that that must have been fun.
LALA-
Yeah 'Executed'. We want to make promotion for this album and we choose 'Executed' because we think that the 'Executed' song is fast aggressive and make people
look forward to the new album and get interested, what will be the other songs in the album right? So yeah we end up choosing that lyric video and it turn out great.
MAL-
Talking about other songs on the album, 'Don't cry my tears'. Holy crap! Who wrote that?
LALA-
Lyrically and musically Romana as I mentioned a while ago, Romana and Seraina is the one who's in charge of making music, but this 'Don't cry my tears' ballad this for me it's also special because after recording I hear the mix, the finished mix. Yeah I have some goosebumps. It's so beautiful, I mean I remember Romana told me that she has this beautiful solo. I said 'Wow, this is so great', because I can imagine myself sitting in the bar having a beautiful sexy pole dancer. I said to her, that's how your solo sounds like, so sexy.
MAL-
Yeah Seraina's voice on that track is just amazing.
LALA-
And the good thing with Seraina is, she can do many things in her voice. She can growl, she can do high pitch, she can do low pitch, she can do the normal ones so she can do '?' but still sounds great yeah. She's very talented voice. Not much people have this kind of voice. So we're really fortunate having her in our band.
Yeah, she's so great.
MAL-
Okay, so that's all off the 'Hexenhammer' album which is due out on November the 9th on Nuclear Blast. So we're going to be touring straight after this album's coming out are we? Are you touring now?
LALA-
Not yet, but we will launch our album on November 9 in Brugg, here in our hometown and then the next day will be we will be in Mannheim, Germany, for our German fans, then next year '?' we will tour with with Grave Digger and then I think that it's also good timing for since our new album is out that time so we can show our the people what can they expect or what they can hear in this new album. We can play some new songs in that tour, new or old.
MAL-
What sort of tours have you been, have you been going out as a headliner or you know in a support slot? Have you been doing both? How's it been working so far?
LALA-
Yeah um the next year tour we will support Grave Digger, but yeah we always support the good bands and it's also good exposure for us because of that the famous band have many, many followers or  many people hearing their music so it's also good for us to to show them since everybody likes heavy metal.
MAL-
All right Lala from BURNING WITCHES,thanks for talking to me today. We look forward to the new album 'Hexenhammer' out on November 9 on Nuclear Blast. Thanks for taking the time to talk to me tonight.
LALA-
